Proposition 1 (Putting Kids First) is NOT the same as Proposition A (Casino Issue)

CSD encourages support of Proposition 1

Cooperating School Districts of Greater St. Louis, Inc. encourages voters in St. Louis County to support Proposition 1, Putting Kids First, for the November 4, 2008 ballot.

The Proposition 1, Putting Kids First Campaign, is funded through a bi-partisan, non-sectarian effort whose sole purpose is to support the mental health and well-being of St. Louis County children and youth. The campaign was initiated by a group of non-profit agencies serving children and families in St. Louis County.

The ballot measure, Proposition 1, is a proposed sales tax -- one penny for every $4 purchased -- that would fund services for an estimated 12,000 St. Louis County children, 19 years and younger, who are currently in physical or emotional distress and not getting needed counseling, crisis intervention, respite care or emergency shelters. Revenue from Proposition 1 also would be spent on school- and community-based prevention programs that have been scaled back significantly because of state budget cuts. The programs would seek to address issues such as suicide, risky health behaviors, substance abuse, child abuse and bullying.

Please don't confuse Proposition 1, which will help children in St. Louis County, with Proposition A, a casino issue.  They are two different ballot issues.
