Hazelwood School District Superintendent named Missouri Education Commissioner
The Cooperating School Districts of Greater St. Louis, Inc.
(CSD) congratulates Chris L. (Wright) Nicastro, as the new
commissioner of education for the state of Missouri.
For the past seven years, Dr. Nicastro has been superintendent of
the Hazelwood School District. Her education background also
includes positions with the Riverview Gardens School District,
Ritenour School District and Northwest R-1 School District. Last
fall, she was recognized by the Missouri Association of School
Administrators (MASA) as Missouri Superintendent of the Year.
“Chris Nicastro has proven herself to be a successful leader in
public education in Missouri,” says John Urkevich, executive
director of the Cooperating School Districts. He adds, “I’m
delighted that she’ll be our next Commissioner. I think she’s a
wonderful choice and a person who will help Missouri school
districts maximize their potential.”
Dr. Nicastro is Missouri’s first female education commissioner. As
the lead educational agent in the state, she will head the
Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, which provides
support and leadership for more than 500 school districts
statewide.
She will take over her new responsibilities on August 1.
