14th Annual Character Education Conference

CHARACTERplus celebrating 20 years of commitment to character

The 14th annual Character Education Conference, hosted by CHARACTERplus, a project of Cooperating School Districts of Greater St. Louis, Inc. (CSD) is being held July 16-18 at its new location, the Millennium Hotel-St. Louis. 

In addition to 60 breakout sessions, conference highlights comprise six exciting pre-conference workshops to include a HIP Approach to High School Bullying; How To: Character Ed 101; and Character Education: A Multi-Dimensional Model for Good Education.  

Keynote speakers include: Jamie Vollmer, a former attorney and businessman who is now an articulate champion of America’s public schools helping school districts build professional morale and increase community support; Sonia Manzano, a positive role model for millions of children since the 1970’s.  After ten years as an actress and playing “Maria” on Sesame Street, she began writing scripts for the series and has shared 13 Emmy Awards to date.  Manzano is also a children’s picture book author; Eric Liu, the author of Guiding Lights: How to Mentor and Find Life’s Purpose, and The Accidental Asian: Notes of a Native Speaker; and Hal Urban, whose teaching, writing, and speaking are about what he calls “old-fashioned goodness.”The Character Education Conference, held annually for K-12 educators, is frameworked within the No Child Left Behind legislation and parallels the National Staff Development Council’s Staff Development Standards.

The Cooperating School Districts, University of Missouri-St. Louis, Center for Character and Citizenship, Missouri State High School Activities Association, Vantage Credit Union, Elliott Data Systems, Inc., Xerox, QuickTrip, DDI Media, and Schiller’s Camera and Video sponsor the 14th Annual Character Education Conference.

Cooperating School Districts (CSD) is an educational consortium serving 65 public school districts in Missouri and Illinois.  CHARACTERplus is a project of CSD that works to advance the cause of character education and sustain its impact on educators and students.
