What is School-wide Positive Behavior Support (PBS)?

Positive Behavior Support is a proactive systems approach to put strategies in place for all children while building in support for those at risk and/or those who receive special education services for behavior problems.

What Are the Benefits of School-wide Positive Behavior Support?

Schools, pre-kindergarten through high school, that implement and consistently use PBS:

• Improve school climate.

• Improve student achievement.

• Reduce suspension and referral rates.

• Increase attendance.

Components of a School-wide PBS System

 • Administrator support, participation and leadership.

 • Common purpose and approach to discipline.

 • Clear set of positive expectations and behaviors.

 • Procedures for teaching expected behavior.

 • Continuum of procedures for encouraging expected behavior.

 • Continuum of procedures for discouraging inappropriate behavior.

 • Procedures for ongoing monitoring.
