Tips for Teachers Participating in Videoconferences
What is Protocol?
Protocol is the consideration of others and applies to both
instructors and students. Here are a few tips to make the
videoconferencing session run smoothly.
- Prior to the Session
Rehearse with the site coordinator (tech. person)
Make a test call
- During the Session
Start the session on time
Provide large tent name cards for students to prop in front of
them
Provide time for the students to practice
Ask students to limit excessive side conversations and distracting
noises, such as rustling of papers
Explain logistics and rules for behavior
Mute your microphones when you are not speaking
Explain discussion rules and any special signals you may have for
students to gain your attention
Discuss the distribution of material
Encourage your students to be assertive and to share during the
class session
Be specific about how you would like the discussion to take
place
- After the Session
Follow up on all questions and give timely and constructive
feedback
Evaluate the program
Make necessary changes
