New Links to New Learning, the Distance Learning program of Cooperating School Districts’ Virtual Learning Center, has been named a 2009 Laureate of The Computerworld Honors Program.
The Computerworld Honors Program recognizes individuals and organizations that use information technology to benefit society. Over 150 worldwide companies and organizations were honored as Laureates in Washington, D.C. on June 1.
At the awards ceremony, New Links to New Learning was named one of five finalists for the 21st Century Achievement Award in the Media, Arts & Entertainment category. There were only 50 finalists worldwide, five in each of 10 categories. “We are delighted for this honor,” says Ruth Litman-Block, director of CSD’s Virtual Learning Center. “We enjoy helping students achieve and learn through technology and the dedicated work of our team at CSD.”
As part of its Laureate status, the New Links to New Learning case study will be included in the National Archives for researchers and others to access. The program was nominated for the award by Polycom, Inc.
Established in 1998, New Links to New Learning is one of the oldest distance learning programs in the country. Over interactive videoconference, VLC has connected thousands of students to videoconferences around the world to enrich curriculum and create global citizenship.
