About

TJay Middlebrook is a Chicago-born member of a Deaf family spanning more than eight generations, navigating both Deaf and Hearing worlds while facing challenges of racism and ableism. His path to a teaching career shifted when he discovered his passion for civil and disability rights. In 2013, he worked in Uganda to help amend the Persons with Disabilities Act. After earning a master’s in International Business, he worked at a domestic violence nonprofit and served as Title II Accessibility Coordinator for the City of Saint Paul. He now oversees the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Division (DHHSD) for the Minnesota Department of Human Services.

Guthrie, a bald white man with a beard and thick glasses, appears on screen, signing in front of a neutral gray backdrop. He wears a black shirt and maintains direct eye contact with the camera. He's presenting the ASL version of TJay Middlebrook's bio, with the written English version provided above.
